Do you love the “classics?”  Join your AACA Museum friends on an adventure celebrating time-honored architectural and automotive treasurers in France!

In addition, to visit of Notre Dame Cathedral and Sainte-Chapelle, Retromobile is THE event for anyone interested in vintage cars, and is hosted in the “city of lights” – Paris!   Retromobile is a major International Exhibition and one of the best European shows devoted to classic cars.

First held in 1976, the show is traditionally the first major classic auto show of the year.  The 2019 exposition at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles will thrill enthusiasts with 72,000 sq. Ft. of space highlighting a car auction, 600 vehicles on display and 650 exhibitors.

The auction house of Artcurial Motorcars’ star of 2019 will be the ex-Trintignant 1931 Bugatti Type 51 chassis #51128 that finished 6th in the 1932 Monaco Grand Prix driven by Marcel Lehoux.  This historic racecar from a significant European private collection will get your “motor running!”

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Wednesday, February 6

Fly USA to Paris – Air schedule to be determined from gateway cities in the USA to Paris.

 

Day 2 – Thursday, February 7

Arrival in Paris!  We are greeted at the airport by our local representative accompanying us by private coach to our hotel in the charming central neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, located on the Left Bank of the River Seine.  Enjoy a welcome reception at the hotel and some time at leisure to relax after the flight.   Welcome dinner is at the hotel restaurant.   Meals included: Dinner    Accommodations for Paris are at Le Saint Hotel – 4-Star.

Day 3 – Friday, February 8

Paris|Poissy – Today explore the city center on a guided walking tour.  Stroll along the streets of the Ile de la Cite, the ancient cradle of the French royal families and ecclesiastical power.  Cross the iconic Pont Neuf and visit the legendary Notre-Dame Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture on which construction began in the 12th century.  Discover the Sainte Chapelle, with its stunning stained glass arranged across fifteen windows; the panes depict 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments.  Continue to the Louvre District and enjoy lunch on your own and at your leisure.  There are many restaurants of all types as you may imagine.  In the afternoon, we have a special visit to the PSA- Peugeot-Citroen Factory in Poissy, to observe the automobile group’s production lines.  Late this afternoon we return to the hotel with time to relax and refresh before dinner in a local restaurant.  Meals included:  Breakfast & Dinner.

 


Day 4 – Saturday, February 9

Paris – We have a full day to visit and explore the 44th edition of the Retromobile Exhibition at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.  It takes place in pavilions 1, 2 and 3.  Discover carmakers, clubs and federations, event organizers, press, various vendors from parts and tools to automobilia, bodywork restorers, and car art galleries.  Dinner is at your leisure for maximum flexibility.   Meals included:  Breakfast.

Day 5 – Sunday, February 10

Paris – Another full day visit to take in the Retromobile Exhibit – from tanks to lorries, as well as motorcycles and a wide array of classic cars, affordable cars, legendary sports cars and makes now relegated to history.  Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant.   Meals included:  Breakfast & Dinner.

Day 6 – Monday, February 11

Depart for Home or Extend your Time in France.  Those departing will transfer to the airport for flights home.

If you stay to join the Reims Extension, you will join your AACA Museum friends to relax and wind down in Champagne country.  Today is a day at leisure to discover the city on your own.   Overnight at Le Saint Hotel in your same room.   Meals included:  Breakfast

Day 7 – Tuesday, February 12

Paris | Reims – This morning head to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Champagne Wine Region, best known for the production of the sparkling white wine that bears the region’s name.  Enjoy a private visit at a fascinating family-owned Champagne wine cellar in a privileged location on beautiful hillsides to discover the secrets of Champagne making and taste the king of wines. Continue to Reims and enjoy time for lunch at your leisure.  In the afternoon, visit The Reims Champagne Automobile Museum on a visit guided by one of the members of the association managing the museum to explore its noteworthy collection of almost 200 cars and motorbikes from 1908 to the present.  Continue to Vinay to check-in to your five-star accommodations and enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.  Overnight is at La Briqueterie.    Meals included:  Breakfast & Dinner.

 

Day 8 – Wednesday, February 13

REIMS – Spend the morning exploring treasures listed with UNESCO World Heritage Sites.  Begin with the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Reims.  Similar to the Notre Dame of Paris as a Gothic cathedral, this monument in Reims was classed by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1991.  It played a central role in the history of France for 800 years as this is where the kings of France were crowned.  The cathedral hosted 33 sovereign coronations in just over 1,000 years.  In addition to its long history, it features stunning stained glass.  Next, explore the Museum of the Surrender to learn of the exact sequence of the end of World War II in Europe from a secret “map room” located in the technical collect in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe.  There is time for lunch at your leisure.  The in the afternoon, return to your accommodations and take the rest of the day to read, relax, and enjoy the spa or the swimming pool.  Then we depart to nearby Epernay for a private visit to the famous Moet & Chandon winery to toast our French sojourn.  Continue on to a festive farewell dinner tonight.  Meals included:  Breakfast & Dinner.

Day 9 – Thursday, February 14

Departure Day to the USA – Transfer to Paris Charles de Galle Airport for our flight home.  Air schedules to US cities to be determined.  Meals included:  Breakfast.
