A team of two students from the ten top schools were selected for the competition through a written qualifying exam. To prepare for the competition, students are currently training at new car dealerships in their areas. On competition day, the students will face a test of advanced automotive diagnostic skills on an assigned 2016 vehicle with predetermined defects. The 2016 vehicles are supplied by area franchised dealerships.

The Pennsylvania Automotive Association represents the nearly 900 new car and truck dealers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
