The Circus Model Builders International returns to display in Hershey after fifty years.
May 23 – 26, 2011
The Leonard Aylesworth Ring #2 of the Circus Model Builders will display model circus equipment from the Golden Age of the American Circus at the AACA Museum from May 23 to 26, 2011.
The displays will comprise all aspects of the circus from museum quality artifacts, to model circus wagons and, tents, trains, and complete model shows. Each display is hand crafted from a variety of different materials such as wood, plastic, metal, card stock and paints. A completed model circus could take a life time to construct.
The Hershey audience is not new to Circus Model Building. During the late 1950s and the early 1960s the CMB displayed on a regular basis in the Hershey Sports arena within Hershey Park. The CMB conventions in Hershey were sponsored by the Leonard Aylesworth Ring #2 which is the same group that will be sponsoring the displaying at the Antique Automobile Car of American Museum in May 2011. The Leonard Aylesworth Ring remains the oldest active and one of the largest Rings, 36 Members, in the International CMB organization.
The Circus Model Builders (CMB) International was established in 1936 and will be celebrating 75 years in 2011. The original organization began with 4 members and has grown to over 900 worldwide. The main mission of the group is to promote the American art form of the circus and to bring together persons who have a strong interest in the circus and want to preserve its history in miniature.
The CMB is divided into 9 lots or divisions with each division containing Rings or chapters. The CMB publishes a bi monthly magazine called the Little Circus Wagon. The Little Circus Wagon provides the membership with organizational news, model building plans and historical information on circus equipment. The Leonard Aylesworth Ring #2 is a part of Lot#2 which covers DC, DE, MD, NJ, PA, VA, and WV. The Aylesworth Ring was founded in May 1945 and currently has members throughout Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. The newsletter published by the Aylesworth Ring is called the Ring Curb Chatter and is issued to members on a bimonthly basis.
