Eastern Museum or Motor RacingEastern Museum of Motor Racing

The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing is a non-profit organization, founded in 1975, dedicated to the preservation of the great history of motor racing in America. EMMR not only honors significant people and vehicles of racings past but also historic speedways and fairgrounds.

In 1982 the historic Latimore Valley Fairgrounds in York Springs, Pa. was purchased by EMMR and restored to its 1930’s appearance. In 1989 the first 8,000 square foot phase of the museum was opened overlooking the Fairgrounds. Since then the museum has grown twice to a current size of 14,000 square feet on two levels. In addition to housing an extensive collection of race vehicles, memorabilia and video displays, EMMR has a large research library and archives, and a bookstore and gift shop.

EMMR is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday, April – October, 10:00am – 4:00pm. FREE ADMISSION!

AACAAACA 2012 Eastern Division National Fall Meet in Hershey

The 2012 AACA Eastern Division National Fall Meet in Hershey is the largest flea market and show in the world. Four days of events include:

  • FLEA MARKET: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Vendors must be 2012 members of AACA.
  • CAR CORRAL: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. AACA recognized vehicles, 1985 and older. Sellers must be 2012 members of AACA.
  • CAR SHOW: Saturday only. AACA recognized vehicles, 1986 and older. AACA judged vehicles for awards recognition. Owners must be 2011 members of AACA.

GTOAmerica On Wheels Museum

America On Wheels Museum showcases cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles! New additions to our galleries—include a 1909 Marsh Metz Motorcycle once owned by actor Steve McQueen and a 1913 MotorcrossHarley Davidson Model 9-A with its unique handlebar-mounted acetylene gas tank used to illuminate the head and tail lights. The Bonneville Streamliner-which set land speed records at the Salt Flats is prominently displayed near the entrance. We are also displaying an array of muscle cars.

Rolls Royce Foundation MuseumThe Rolls-Royce Foundation

The Rolls-Royce Foundation Museum Library and Research Center in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, is a non-profit organization and is situated adjacent to the Rolls-Royce Owner’s Club (RROC) headquarters in a large L-shaped building. Rolls Royce Foundation MuseumCurrently, more than 20 Rolls-Royce and Bentley automobiles are on display ranging in age from a Springfield-built 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Limousine with coachwork by Brewster, to a 1985 Silver Spirit 4-Door Saloon. Other vehicles include a fully-operatinal 1934 Phantom II chassis; 1936 20/25 Sports Saloon, Freestone & Webb; 1936 Phantom III Saloon, Hooper; 1946 Silver Wraith Saloon, Freestone & Webb; 1954 Phantom IV, Mulliner (on loan); 1958 Silver Cloud I 4-Door Saloon; a 1961 Phantom V, James Young; and a 1985 Silver Spur Saloon. Bentleys are there, too, including a 1958 S-1 4-Door Saloon and a stunning 1936 3.5-Litre Sedanca Coupe with coachwork by Hooper. Currently on display is a Phantom saloon space frame courtesy of Rolls-Royce Motorcars. It is constructed entirely of aluminum from forgings and extrusions and boasts over 450 feet of hand welds! It makes for quite an imposing site opposite the vintage Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicles on display in the main salon. All of the vehicles currently on display (save for the Bentley racer and Rolls-Royce aluminum space frame) have been donated to the Foundation by generous individuals.

The 5,000 sq.ft. facility located at 189 Hempt Road, houses an extensive collection of artwork and automobilia, a vast library, historical archives and the organizations offices in addition to the aforementioned vehicles. The RRF has an extensive collection of parts, memorabilia and Rolls-Royce and Bentley factory service records to aid in the research of a particular automobile, regardless of its age. Technical seminars are regularly given in the shop facility using actual factory engines and components with service training by noted experts. Check the website for details.

Celebrating the Spirit of Competition

Do you like race cars and competition history? Then be sure to visit the new Simeone Foundation Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The collection begins in 1909 and spans the decades through the mid-1970’s Simeone Foundation Museumfeaturing magnificent, one-of-a-kind cars with incredible provenance and historical importance. Many of these cars are, one-of-a-kind cars, and many are in original, as raced-condition. Museum founder Dr. Frederick Simeone has graciously chosen to share his collection of vintage racing cars, a collection he has amassed over 50 years, with the public-at-large. The Simeone Foundation Museum is a 501c(3) non-profit organization and is open Tuesday through Sunday 10am to 6pm (closed Mondays). It is located at 6825-31 Norwitch Drive in Philadelphia. America’s Oldest Automotive Museum

The Swigart Museum near Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, is considered to be America’s Oldest Automobile Museum and house about 30 or so cars at any given time along with a treasure trove of automobilia. The collection spans well over a century of automotive history and is comprised largely of early cars. Vehicles are rotated periodically to keep displays fresh and a reason for regulars to continue to visit. Walls and shelves are lined with vintage toys, artwork, advertising, and countless radiator badges.

Herbie, The Love BugThe centerpiece of the collection is a pair of Tuckers; #13, a superbly restored silver car used in the film “Tucker: The Man and His Dream” starring Jeff Bridges and the original red prototype known as the “Tin Goose.” Parked side-by-side, the duo allows the inevitable comparison of production and prototype models that is rarely offered with any marque. Another movie car on display is “Herbie, The Love Bug,” a 1960 Volkswagen Beetle made famous in the film of the same name.

The museum is open Memorial Day through October, daily 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. and tour groups are welcome. Reservations can be made by calling 814-643-0885 and information is available on the website at www.swigartmuseum.com. About a one hour and forty five minute drive west of Harrisburg, the State Capitol, the Swigart is a leisurely drive along the Juniata River to a place back in time.
