HERSHEY, PA – Sierra Sandison has graciously accepted our invitation to participate in this year’s The Elegance at Hershey. Sierra Sandison, Miss Idaho 2014, made international headlines after being crowned in July because of her decision to proudly wear her insulin pump while competing at Miss Idaho and later at Miss America. She posted a picture of herself and the pump during the swimsuit portion of the pageant, which quickly went viral, and helped her launch the #showmeyourpump campaign, which inspired thousands and thousands of diabetics all over the U.S., as well as over 35 other countries, to post their own pictures, bravely showing off their insulin pumps and other medical devices. Sierra now spends her time traveling the country speaking about her journey with diabetes, as well as overcoming adversity and being proud of the things that make us different.
“We are most pleased that Sierra Sandison has agreed to join us for this year’s Elegance at Hershey,” says Steve Moskowitz, Elegance Board Member. “She is an inspiration to all demonstrating her drive and determination in sharing with the world her disability and her strength to overcome it. There’s no better spokesperson for Type 1 diabetes than Ms. Sandison. Sierra will be very busy at The Elegance as she will be speaking at our Saturday night Gala ‘The Celebration,’ hosting photo and autograph sessions throughout the weekend and acting as the Chief Judge at our new Concorso Bizarro, our Saturday odd-ball car show.”
Don Stabilito, our Executive Director adds, “If you see Sierra during the weekend, please stop her to say hello and thank her for her dedication. We can all learn a lot from this beauty queen.”

The weekend culminates with the spectacular Concours on Sunday. New events this year will be the Concorso Bizarro (an assemblage of off-beat automotive oddities) and seminars that both novice and experienced collectors will enjoy. Adding to the excitement are our special guests including Terry Gregg, the CEO of DexCom who will be honored for his work in diabetic care, along with the Keno Brothers, best known from TV’s The Antiques Roadshow. Sierra Sandison, Miss Idaho and a Type 1 diabetic, will also grace us with her presence throughout the weekend.
