Stainless Steel, 1967 Lincoln Continental Convertible
Revised dates: October 4 – September 30, 2010

In 1935, officials at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Division and the Ford Motor Company collaborated on an experiment that resulted in the creation of stainless steel cars that would be a tribute to stainless steel, one of the most dynamic metals ever developed.
Allegheny Ludlum, a pioneer producer of stainless steel, proposed the idea of creating a stainless steel car to Ford, leading to the development of a 1936 Deluxe Sedan, that later became the centerpiece of a campaign to expose the public to the new metal and its many uses. Later, Allegheny Ludlum and Ford collaborated on two more stainless models, a 1960 Thunderbird and a 1967 Lincoln Continental Convertible. Both of these amazing vehicles will be on display at the AACA Museum until September 30, 2010.
1911 Olds Limited 7-passenger Touring
Now through January 31, 2010
Original and unrestored, this car is one of 159 seven-passenger Touring Limiteds built for 1911 and is believed to be the only completely unrestored and original example known to exist. There have been four owners since the car was new with the most recent owner, Mr. Jack Rich of Pennsylvania, acquiring the vehicle as part of the Helen Swigart collection auction conducted by RM Auctions in Hershey in 2007 for $1.65 million dollars. Mr. Rich fell in love with its condition and importance, and vowed to purchase it, his intensions being to keep it preserved and keep it in Pennsylvania.
Upon its purchase, the car was carefully transported to Mr. Rich’s private collection, where over many months it was painstakingly documented and inspected in order to formulate a plan for its future. It was Mr. Rich’s stance that the car should never be restored, but because it is a mechanical item and not a static piece of art, it should be brought back to a running, driving example. The Limited’s powerplant was seized tight, owing this condition from being filled with water and mud from the 1936 flood. The engine was carefully removed and made to turn free over a period of many months. After disassembly for inspection, only the most necessary internal components were replaced, enabling reuse of the major items, including the original cast iron pistons. In keeping with the terms of originality, it was decided that an electric starter was not to be retrofitted. The original leather cone clutch was still in fantastic shape, and was retained. A careful chassis and upholstery cleaning was performed, being careful only to remove excessive grease and river silt. Pounds and pounds of the river dirt and mud that was removed from the car was sifted through screens, in order to separate and save the many loose items that had fallen off the car over decades. The original shreds of what were once tires were saved on the original Continental rims. New rims were made to carry the new Old Stock Firestone tires that Mr. Swigart had purchased in 1963. In July of this year, the once-again mighty Limited had awoken from its long sleep, firing to life and driving on its own for the first time since the late teens! The car was debuted at the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and will be on display here at the AACA Museum from October 1-13, 2009.

Fast from the Past: Competition Motorcycles of Yesteryear
June 1, 2009 – March 31, 2010
From their inception during the last decade of the 19th century, motorcycles have been associated with speed and excitement, and from then until now literally hundreds of manufacturers have capitalized on that image by investing in racing motorcycles and teams. Many of these well-known and lesser-known marques will be featured in the upcoming “Fast from the Past” exhibit scheduled to open in late May 2009, at the AACA Museum. More than forty motorcycles owned and restored by members of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America will be placed on display; their styles and vintage will cover every era and every aspect of the motorcycle sport, from the fearsome board trackers of the teens to road racers of the 1970’s capable of speeds approaching 200 mph. If speed is your need, you’ll want to see “Fast from the Past” at the AACA Museum.
