Drive-In Movie Weekends at the AACA Museum June 15 & 16 AND July 20 & 21

Update:  Due to the rain predicted for Friday 7/20, we will now be hosting the drive-in movie on Saturday 7/21 and Sunday 7/22.

Hershey, PA (May 31, 2012)  Drive-in movies were first introduced in New Jersey in the 1930’s as a way to make the movie going experience more comfortable for guests by allowing visitors to watch movies from the comfort of their own car.  Drive-ins reached the peak of their popularity in the 1950’s and 60’s. At that time there were over 4,000 drive-ins in the United States.  Back by popular demand, The Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum will be hosting two drive-in movie weekends this year, allowing guests to experience the nostalgia brought on by this iconic characteristic of the time!   The three story inflatable movie screen along with a sound system will be erected on the grounds directly behind the Museum by USA Theatres.  Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for viewing with drive-in parking spots available on a first-come, first-served basis.

On June 15 & 16 (rain/wind date Sunday, June 17) the Museum will be showing Disney PIXAR Cars rated G with a running time of 117 minutes.   On July 20 & 21 (rain/wind date July 22) the Museum will be showing Disney PIXAR Cars 2 rated G with a running time of 106 minutes.     The suggested donation is $15 per car.  Prior to each film, we will be showing some classic cartoons reminiscent of the early drive- in days with viewing times starting at approximately 8:45–9:00 pm each evening, as darkness permits.  Show field parking and blanket areas will be available @ 7:00 PM.

In the event of inclement weather, rain or strong winds, we will show the selected film on the Sunday of each respective weekend.  Food vendors will be on site with your drive-in favorites.   For the comfort and consideration of all visitors, we’re asking that pets be left at home.

Movie description CARS:  “From the acclaimed creators of Toy Story, The Incredibles and Fining Nemo comes a high-octane adventure comedy that shows life is about the journey, not the finish line.  Hotshot rookie race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is living life in the fast lane until he hits a detour on his way to the most important race of his life.  Stranded in Radiator Springs, a forgotten town on the old Route 66, he meets Sally, Mater, Doc Hudson (Paul Newman) and a variety of quirky characters who help him discover that there’s more to life than trophies and fame.”

Movie description Cars 2: “ Star race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and his pal Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.”

The AACA Museum will also unveil the newest exhibit “100 Years of Chevrolet” on June 15th featuring more than 30 fabulous cars telling the Chevrolet Story for the past 100 years.   This new exhibit opening together with the Drive-In movie weekend makes the AACA Museum the perfect Father’s Day Weekend Destination!
