Factory Performance Cars 1964-1972
May 20th through October 8th 2006
American Muscle picked up right where our winter 2005 exhibition, Thunder Before the Storm: Birth of the American Muscle Car left off. Museum visitors saw many of the cars that made the muscle car era (generally considered 1964 to 1972) such a special time in America’s rich automotive history. During this era, cars from Detroit’s Big Three (and American Motors) competed weekly on dragstrips and oval tracks across America. Production versions of these performance cars increased sales and showroom traffic in an era when the slogan “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” was truly meaningful.
